Tanya Tagaq unleashes her wild, improvised sound

Polaris and Juno award-winning throat singer Tanya Tagaq performs live with Toronto's Element Choir and Jesse Zubot.

Tanya Tagaq's voice is a veritable force of nature. The Polaris and Juno award-winning artist unleashes vocal sounds that are at times fragile and at others deeply primal and menacing.

Today the Nunavut-raised, Manitoba-based throat-singer storms the stage with Toronto's Element Choir and her celebrated producer/collaborator Jesse Zubot.

Tagaq also joins Shad to talk about her recent banner year, why she's fearless with improvisation and how she honours the tradition of throat singing while still creating something new and modern.
