To honour Canada Day, Rio de Janeiro's giant Christ the Redeemer statue was lit red and white. On the one hand, we think it's a great idea. But, we still have some questions:

1. Christ the Redeemer isn't the CN Tower. It's a 30-metre, 635 tonne religious icon. By bathing Christ the Redeemer in Canada's red and white are we going a little David Cameron

2. When was the last time Montreal lit the Mount Royal Cross  in red and white for Canada Day?

3. Sure, red is Canada's colour, but it isn't exactly heavenly. What about the Rio residents who woke up to find their giant white Jesus lit from below in the red glow of the netherworld? Oh Canada, or, Oh scary!?

4. Is it possible all that red was confused for Switzerland? And, wouldn't that just irk Argentina players, who beat the Swiss team 1-0? Where's the blue and white?

5. Apparently, we gave Father Omar, the rector of the shrine that holds the statue, a "CBC Hockey Night in Canada" jersey. Did someone tell Father Omar his new duds will be out -of-date next season, when Rogers takes over CBC's broadcasting rights?

6. About that hockey swag. It 's July. And, we're in the middle of World Cup. Everyone already knows Canada loves hockey. We get it. Now, lets move on. To soccer. Canada's women in cleats have been tearing up the field both here and abroad. Next time, can we give Father Omar a jersey with Christine Sinclair's name on it?
