When Wisconsin resident Lois Matykowski lost her wedding ring nearly 6 years ago, she thought it was gone forever. But then a couple of weeks ago her dog Tucker was sick after eating a popsicle. Turns out Tucker had gobbled up the popsicle stick, too, and he threw up. Soon after, long lost wedding ring followed.
Ms. Matykowski tells guest host Susan Bonner she searched everywhere for the ring. A friend came by with a metal detector. But no luck. Despite the frantic and thorough search, the ring was never found. "When we traded our car in", Ms Matykowski explains to Susan, "we had them take the front seat of the car out just in case it had fallen in any little nooks or crannies".
Tucker the dog's owner, Lois Matykowski
Ms Matykowski had come to accept the loss. Then last week her dog Tucker, affectionately known as a food burglar, swiped her 1-year-old granddaughter's popsicle. It made Tucker ill. First, out came the popsicle stick. Then a couple of days later Tucker was sick again and this time the dog threw up Ms Matykowski's diamond wedding ring. "I almost died", says Ms Matykowski, "my heart pounds when I still tell this story, because it is so unbelievable to me, but there it was."
Ms Matykowski took Tucker to the vet to try and get some answers. "I asked the vet is this even possible that ring could have been in Tucker this whole time," Ms Matykowski tells Susan, "she said anything is possible with a dog". The vet x-rayed Tucker the dog and confirmed there were no other foreign objects inside him.
Despite his ring swallowing escapades, Lois Matykowski is very pleased with Tucker. "He's just a super dog", Ms Matykowski tells Susan, "I have my wedding ring back and I am elated."
