Who's in and who's out: election night big wins and losses

Some big-name losses in this election include Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe, Toronto NDP candidate Olivia Chow and Chris Alexander, who was the minister of citizenship and immigration.

The NDP lost some top MPs in Peter Stoffer, Megan Leslie, and Paul Dewar.

On the Liberal side, rookies Bill Blair won in Scarborough Southwest, Seamus O'Regan won in St. John's South-Mount Pearl and Hedy Fry has been re-elected in B.C.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May won her seat in B.C. 

Top Conservatives defeated:

• Tim Uppal, minister of state for multiculturalism — Defeated in Edmonton Mill Woods, Alta.

• Leona Aglukkaq, minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, minister for the Arctic Council, minister of the environment — Defeated in Nunavut.

• Gary Goodyear, minister of state (federal economic development agency for southern Ontario) — Defeated in Cambridge, Ont. 

• John Duncan, minister of state — Defeated in Courtenay-Alberni, B.C.

• Greg Rickford, minister for the federal economic development initiative for northern Ontario, minister of natural resources — Defeated in Kenora, Ont.

• Paul Calandra, a top MP — Defeated in Markham-Stouffville, Ont.

• Julian Fantino, associate minister of national defence — Defeated in Vaughan-Woodbridge, Ont.

• Kerry-Lynne Findlay, minister of national revenue — Defeated in Delta, BC.

• Joe Oliver, minister of Finance — Defeated in Eglinton-Lawrence, Ont.

• Chris Alexander, minister of citizenship and immigration — Defeated in Ajax, Ont.

• Bal Gosal, minister of state (sport) — Defeated in Brampton Centre, Ont.

• Ed Holder, minister of state (science and technology) — Defeated in London West, Ont.

• Bernard Valcourt, aboriginal affairs and northern development minister — Defeated in Madawaska-Restigouche, N.B.

• Gail Shea, fisheries and oceans minister — Defeated in Egmont, PEI.

Top Liberals elected:

• Bill Casey won his seat in Cumberland-Colchester, NS.
• Carla Qualtrough won in Delta, defeating Conservative MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
• Bill Blair won in Scarborough Southwest, Ont.
• Seamus O'Regan won in St. John's South-Mount Pearl, Nfld.
• Hedy Fry has been re-elected in Vancouver Centre, B.C.

Top NDP candidates defeated:

• Dennis Bevington lost in Northwest Territories.

• Jack Harris, the party's outgoing defence critic, conceded defeat in St. John's East..

• Peter Stoffer lost in Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook, N.S. 

• Megan Leslie, deputy leader of the party, lost in Halifax.

• Paul Dewar lost in Ottawa Centre, Ont.
• Nycole Turmel, former NDP interim leader, lost in Hull-Aylmer, Que.
• Pat Martin lost in Winnipeg Centre, Man.

Top NDP candidates elected:

• Ruth Ellen Brosseau — Won in Berthier-Maskinongé, Que.

Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House, has been re-elected in Regina-Qu'Appelle.

Former ministers Christian Paradis, John Baird, Shelly Glover and James Moore are not running. In July, former minister Lynne Yelich did not win the Conservative nomination for the Saskatchewan-Grasswood riding.
