Someone Knows Something, CBC true-crime podcast, debuts with fresh look at Adrien McNaughton case

Someone Knows Something, a new true-crime podcast examining unsolved cases of missing or murdered individuals, is debuting today on CBC. 

David Ridgen will host the weekly series, which focuses on a single Canadian cold case each season in hopes of uncovering new information, while also exploring how the cases have affected the families and communities involved.

New episodes will be released on Mondays.

Award-winning Canadian filmmaker, writer and investigative specialist Ridgen, best known for his 2007 doc Mississippi Cold Case,  will highlight evidence and first-hand accounts from families, law enforcement, potential suspects and more.

"The more time you spend looking at a case, the more things emerge from the picture that can help solve it," Ridgen said. 

"That's why podcasting and true crime are such a natural fit," he added.

"It's an exciting and immersive way to tell stories and an effective method for uncovering new information and using the public to help gather missing pieces of the puzzle and put it together in a new way, that may lead to solving the case."

The first season will explore the case of Adrien McNaughton, a five-year-old who disappeared without a trace from Holmes Lake (approximately 100 km west of Ottawa) in 1972. It's a story that has particular resonance for Ridgen, who grew up in the area.

The true-crime genre has seen a resurgence, with armchair detectives eagerly delving into the real-life cases explored in the wildly successful podcast Serial and in popular doc series such as Making a Murderer and The Jinx.
