Pussy Riot, Cyndi Lauper set for Toronto Pride celebration in June

Russian punk collective Pussy Riot, singer Cyndi Lauper and gay rights activist Chaz Bono will help lead the Toronto's Pride parade, festival organizers announced on Tuesday.

The 35th instalment of the annual fest runs June 19-28 with the theme of 'Come OUT and PLAY!'

Toronto's Pride celebrations are billed the the largest in North America. This year, organizers announced that performances from Pussy Riot and Cyndi Lauper will headline the annual event which takes place June 19 to 28.

Russian punk collective Pussy Riot, singer Cyndi Lauper, comical cult legend John Waters and gay rights activist Chaz Bono are set for Toronto's Pride celebration.

Organizers say Pussy Riot and Lauper will be among the event's international grand marshals who will help lead the parade on June 28.

Meanwhile, Waters will bring his lecture series The Filthy World to the Ryerson Theatre on June 22.

And Bono will appear at Yonge-Dundas Square on June 26 as part of the Transforming Pride event.

Canadian producer David Furnish was previously announced as a grand marshal for the festival.
