Paris Hilton wasarrested in Los Angeles early Thursday on suspicion of drunk driving after police spotted her "driving erratically."
Theheiress and television personalitywas pulled over in Hollywood just before 12.30 a.m., said police spokesman I. Isabella.
"The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," he said.
Hilton was booked on suspicion ofdriving under the influence, a misdemeanor offence, and released. The legal limit for alcohol in California is 0.08 per cent.
Hilton's spokesman Elliot Mintz dismissed the incident, saying Hilton "didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated."
The symptoms that made her appear to be driving under the influencewere "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said.
Mintz said Hilton had had one drink, a margarita, before driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event.
She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, Paris.
In June, Hilton was involved in an accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage.
