Emily VanCamp on love and war in latest Captain America film
Ontario native plays Agent 13 in Marvel's latest blockbuster based on comics
Canadian Emily VanCamp still laughs at the way her major fight scene with co-star Scarlett Johansson went down in Captain America: Civil War, saying she had to use her dance background to help with the moves.
"We hadn't even discussed a fight style for Sharon," said VanCamp, who plays Sharon Carter, also known as Agent 13, in the blockbuster franchise. "It was just 'well what about this, can you do this, yeah ok great,' you know, and it sort of turned into this very leggy kicking thing."
VanCamp, who made her Marvel debut in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, said the spontaneity was all part of the fun.
"I love the challenge of it and when you get to work with the best stunt team of life, it's always great fun... it was a great time and Scarlett was really fun because I've loved her in all these films previously."
The film is dominating the foreign box office in its first weekend, bringing in an estimated $200 million US in 37 international territories. It will open in North American theatres May 6.
VanCamp's character also breaks down Cap's defences. The pair's romantic alliance has a complex backstory throughout the comic books on which it's all based.
"It's nice to scratch the surface of that relationship because it was a great relationship within the comic world," she told CBC's Eli Glasner in Toronto. "I think they just have this innate trust for one another."
