Vandals trash 20 Transit Windsor bus shelters to the tune of $15K
Windsor police have released video they believe shows someone smashing a Transit Windsor bus shelter by "firing an object" out the passenger window of an SUV.
Vandals have now smashed and trashed 20 Transit Windsor bus shelters in the city's east end over the course of two nights. The total damage is estimated to be $15,000.
Transit Windsor told CBC that about seven shelters were damaged Tuesday night.
Monday night, vandals smashed the glass of seven shelters in the area of Riverside Drive E. and McHugh Street, east of Lauzon Road.
Police now say the total over two nights is 20.
"There are now 20 reported incidents from Monday and Tuesday resulting in over $15,000 in damage. Investigation revealed that a suspect vehicle, a dark coloured SUV with a spare tire on the back, drove by multiple locations and the passenger appears to break the glass by firing an object, possibly from a slingshot," reads a news release issued by the Windsor Police Service.
Transit riders were met with piles shattered glass and jagged pieces of glass jutting out of the shelter frames when they arrived at stops Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Steve Habrun at Transit Windsor told CBC some of the brackets that hold the glass in place were also damaged Monday.
