Recently, I walked into a new bakery on Wyandotte Street called the House of Baklava.

As the name might suggest, they have great baklava, sold in a variety of shapes and featuring different nuts. They also make beautiful looking cakes and cookies. 

But it was another pastry that caught my attention.

It's called kanafeh. Unlike baklava, it's a little harder to find around town.

Kanafeh is a sweet, crispy cheese pastry commonly eaten for breakfast in the Middle East.

Think of it as a Middle Eastern answer to the cheese danish. You can eat it plain or inside a bun.
