Here's what it looks like inside the closed Windsor-Detroit Tunnel
Media tour provides update on Windsor-Detroit tunnel construction
Work to replace the ceiling slabs in the Windsor-Detroit tunnel is underway.
The international crossing is scheduled to be shuttered until Oct. 30 — its longest-ever full closure — to give crews time to repair the decades-old ceiling.
"Our goal is that as we approach our 87th anniversary in November that the tunnel is here to serve both Windsor and Detroit for another 87 years," said Windsor-Detroit Tunnel president Neal Belitsky during a media tour Thursday.
The $21-million renovation project is funding by user fees and tolls and is in it's third phase.
Once the tunnel opens, officials say the ceiling on the river section will be exposed.

"When folks first come in it will look like it does every other day and as soon as they hit the river side section then they'll see a big open space above them," Belitsky explained.
Starting Nov. 30, the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will be closed Sunday through Thursday from 8PM to 5:30AM for concrete and steel replacement.

See that? It's the ceiling of the tunnel under the water being ripped out. That's why the tunnel is closed. pic.twitter.com/27p99WrBdV

Au cœur de la bête. La dernière fois où le tunnel à été fermé aussi longtemps pour des travaux est en 1993. pic.twitter.com/KS8yZub380
