Two Vaughan women who own an unlicensed home daycare in Vaughan have been arrested and charged in connection with the 2013 death of 2-year-old Eva Ravikovich.

Owners arrested in connection with 2013 death of Eva Ravikovich

Eva Ravikovich, 2, was found dead at an unlicensed daycare in Vaughan, north of Toronto, on July 8, 2013.

York Regional Police have charged the owners of an unlicensed home daycare in Vaughan in connection with the 2013 death of 2-year-old Eva Ravikovich.

Police arrested 49-year-old Olena Panfilova and her daughter Karyna Rabadanova, 26, on Wednesday.

They are both charged with obstructing police for interfering with the ongoing investigation and destroying evidence in connection to the death of Eva Ravikovich, who died of unknown causes on July 8, 2013.

Panfilova, her husband Ruslan Panfilova, and Rabadanova were each already charged with operating an illegal daycare under the Day Nurseries Act.

There were 27 children at the daycare on the day Ravikovich died — far more than the five children under the age of 10 that the province says unlicensed daycares are allowed to care for.

Both accused have not been held in custody.

They are scheduled to appear in a Newmarket courtroom on November 12.
