Uber driver stabbed by passenger in Scarborough, police say
Stabbing took place in vehicle near Kingston Road and Sheppard Avenue East
An Uber driver is in serious condition after being stabbed by a passenger in Scarborough on Wednesday afternoon, Toronto police and the ride share company say.
Police said the stabbing happened in a vehicle in the area of Kingston Road and Sheppard Avenue East. Officers were called to the area shortly before 2 p.m. by a citizen, police said.
Toronto paramedics took the driver to hospital.
In a statement on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Uber said it has contacted the driver.
"What this driver went through is absolutely terrifying, and our thoughts are with him as he recovers from this senseless attack," the Uber spokesperson said in the statement.
"As soon as this incident was reported to us, we banned the rider from the platform. We have been in touch with the driver and stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation."
Police described the suspect as male, about five foot seven, with a slim build and about 20 to 25 years old.
Police are searching for the suspect. No roads have been closed but people are urged to avoid the area.
