A few days before Remembrance Day, a poppy donations box stolen in Aurora
Police seek help from public on Remembrance Day theft
A man is wanted in the theft of a poppy donation box at a Canadian Tire store in Aurora on Friday — just a few days before Remembrance Day.
Security cameras captured images of the suspect being dropped off at the store shortly after 9 a.m. in an older model red Chevrolet Aveo or Pontiac Vibe missing its front right hubcap.
Police say the suspect entered the store and walked to an unattended cash register where he picks up the poppy donation box, conceals it beneath his coat and exits the store.
There is no word of the amount of money in the box. Investigators are asking for the public's help with identifying this man.
The money exchanged for poppies is meant to assist Canadian veterans and their dependants.
Poppy box thefts are prevalent around this time of year, with high-profile cases in British Columbia and Alberta.
There have been at least six poppy thefts reported and three arrests in the lead up to this Remembrance Day.
