In 1995 the world game to Thunder Bay. The city hosted the World Nordic Games. Matt Procopchuk took this walk down memory lane.. which by the way, was a very muddy walk.

Some of the world's best Nordic skiiers and ski-jumpers descended on Thunder Bay, Ont., in March, 1995 as the city played host to the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

It was only the second time in the event's history that the 10-day competition was held outside of Europe.

The Nordics were held at the former Big Thunder National Training Centre just south of the city, roughly one year before the facility was shut down.

Unseasonably warm weather, however, wrecked havoc on the conditions, turning Big Thunder into a muddy mess. Despite that, the Nordics are still remembered as one of the most important sporting events to take place in the city.
