Delaine Copenace search: How you can help
The search team needs money, water, and volunteers
As the search for a missing Kenora, Ont., teenager enters its third week, search organizers have provided CBC with a wish list for those wondering what they can do to help.
Sixteen-year-old Delaine Copenace was last seen in downtown Kenora on Feb. 27.
Volunteers searching for her stepped up their efforts Monday after provincial police announced they were suspending their ground search and underwater recovery operation.
Some teams have travelled to Dryden and Fort Frances, she said.
Freeman told CBC anyone wanting to help the effort can contribute in the following ways:
1. Donate water
"We do send some teams out fairly far, like outside of Kenora, and we do pack them a lunch. We do give them water, the snacks that they need to give them that energy while they're out there," Freeman said.
Donations can be delivered to Knox United Church in Kenora.
2. Donate money
Organizers will use financial contributions to buy food and water, as well as gas for vehicles being used in the search, Freeman said.
"We did have a gas fund, but that's been depleted," she said.
3. Print the poster and put it up
Anybody who wants to help the search can find a poster featuring a photo of Copenace on the search team's Facebook page.
The page is called "Help Us Find Delaine Copenace."
4. Volunteer for the search team
As the search grows longer, the team needs more volunteers to replace those who have already contributed.
"We don't have as many people as we did in the beginning," Freeman said, adding the crew not only needs searchers, it also needs people to staff the tables where volunteers sign in and receive supplies.
5. Search your property
"Check places where we can't go," Freeman said. "We can't go onto private property.
"It's just checking. Everywhere. That's all we ask."
6. Attend the fundraising social on Thursday night
It takes place at 6:30 p.m., March 17, at the Ne-Chee Friendship Centre in Kenora.
Donations can be made at the door.
