If you've ever had an itch to hone your stage talents, the Sudbury Theatre Centre might be able to help you scratch that theatre bug.

The playhouse is launching the STC Academy, a venture artistic director Caleb Marshall describes as a more "comprehensive" set of theatrical classes and programs for all ages and aspirations.

New offerings at the STC will include intensive adult workshops that seem to the run the gamut of thespian pursuits.

"They range from everything from stage combat, to acting, musical dance, singing, playwriting, comedy, but also some of the technical arts like lighting [and] sound design," said Marshall.

Also in the program for the new academy are a series of impressive guest artists who will work with aspiring actors and writers.

"I'll be teaching some of the classes, and Matthew Heiti our resident playwright ... but also Norm Foster, Canada's most-produced playwright will do a master class on creating comedy characters with heart."

Marshall said the goals of the academy are both simple and somewhat more complex.

"[Developing] local talent is really important to me," he said. "[But] we're also trying to... raise the next generation of ... theatre audience."
