English public elementary school teachers in Sudbury were to picket in the downtown area Monday morning as part of its union’s rotating one-day strikes in protest of Bill 115.

The local president of the Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario teachers in the Rainbow School Board work at 40 different locations and, as a result, the union decided to get all teachers together to protest and show their discontent with the provincial government.

"Minister Rick Bartolucci's office is in downtown Sudbury," Barb Blasutti said.

"I had the displeasure … of being at Queen's Park on the day they took the vote on Bill 115 and, to my extreme dismay, I watched Rick Bartolucci vote in favour of passing this legislation."

Elementary schools in the Rainbow District School Board were closed Monday.

Teachers with the James Bay Teacher local in Moosonee and Moose Factory were also expected to be on the picket lines Monday.

Elementary schools in the Moose Factory Island District Board, as well as the Moosonee District Area school board, were closed.
