Sudbury elementary teachers walk out Monday
Rotating one-day strikes by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario continues
English public elementary school teachers in Sudbury will be taking part in a one-day strike on Monday and the board says it's working to let parents know that elementary schools will be closed as a result.
The director of education said a letter is being sent home with students today with more information.
"[The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario] has met their 72-hour provision. However, they included those 72 hours in the weekend," Norm Blaseg said.
"So we're somewhat challenged because, if a student is absent from school today, the parent will not receive written notice about the cancellation of classes. So that is problematic for us. So for those students who are absent from school, we will try our best to contact the parents by phone."
English public teachers with the James Bay teacher local will also be participating in the one-day strike.
Elementary schools with the Moose Factory Island District Board, as well as the Moosonee District School Board will be closed as well.
All elementary schools in those boards are scheduled to re-open Tuesday.
