Sudbury fisherman aims to hook anglers with bait holding invention
It's a problem many anglers can relate to: getting bait onto your fishing rod safely, without rocking the boat.
Sudbury's JR Paquette, who has been an avid fisherman for years, came up with an idea to fix that problem: Bait-2-Go.
He was recently a finalist in Norcat's Innovation Pitch Mill 2015 in Sudbury.
Paquette said the product is a specialized type of bait holder that holds various types of bait — everything from worms, leeches or minnows.
"I typically like to fish with live bait [as] I've had great success," he said.
"When the fish are biting and you're losing your bait, you always need to gain access to that larger bait bucket."
The product is meant to store smaller amounts of bait and complement existing bait buckets as anglers will still likely want a larger pail to store the rest of their bait said Paquette.
The product clips on to the side of the boat, he said. Users simply twist off the top lid and lift the scoop with the rod. Following a twist and hook motion of the hand, the scoop is accessible to easily get bait.
Paquette said it's not only convenient, but safe to use when on the water.
"If it is choppy and you're bringing the kids and grandparents, you don't need to get up and move around," he said.
"You can have close calls if things are moving around in a boat."
