Sheri-Lynn McEwan honoured at Sudbury barbecue fundraiser
The friends of a murdered Sudbury woman are hoping to keep alive her memory—and the investigation into her death.
A fundraiser will be held this Saturday in memory of Sheri-Lynn McEwan, an Estaire woman who was murdered in October.
OPP are still investigating, but say there are no new developments in the case. McEwan was found seriously injured in her home and later died.
McEwan's friend Crystal Larose said they're hoping the fundraiser might help to again focus attention on the case.
“Every day is still so fresh. Little things remind us of her,” she said.
“ 'Til we get an answer, it's not really going to lay still … We're just still on edge finding out what's going on and … I think everyone is just ready for some closure at this point."
The fundraiser barbecue for the Sudbury Women's Centre is being put on by the Iron Sirens, a women's motorcycle club. McEwan was an avid motorcyclist.
Larose said McEwan inspired her to get over her fear of riding a motorcycle.
"Now, since she's passed, every time I take out my bike it's for her. And I have a lot more courage than I ever had,” she said.
The barbecue will be held on Saturday at the Giant Tiger parking lot on Lasalle Boulevard from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
