SalDan gets partial green light for hilltop development
Sudbury developer will have to help pay for a flood wall, although it opposes the idea
A developer who some blame for flooding a downtown Sudbury neighbourhood will continue to build the Sunrise Ridge subdivision.
SalDan Developments was granted a three-year extension to build the hilltop units at last night's city planning meeting.
The developer got the go-ahead from the city on the condition that it agrees to pay for a feasibility study to assess whether or not a wall will stop future flooding to neighbourhoods below. The study must be completed before any further development continues.
Sam Biasucci, the owner of SalDan Developments, said the company will also pay for half the cost of a flood wall if the study deems that one is required — even though he opposes the idea.
"As a matter of fact, I really don't agree to it," Biasucci said. "I think, at the end of the day, when it's actually looked at, there's no need for it."
Currently SalDan only has approval to proceed on 11 lots. The original plans called for the development of 77 lots.
