Bill Best, Cambrian College president, reflects on new role
A new face in the education community in Greater Sudbury is keeping a wide perspective on the college he serves.
Bill Best, the new president of Cambrian College, comes to the school at a time when the province has signed an agreement with its colleges.
The agreement compels them to register their 10 strongest programs, along with five they wish to expand. Best told CBC News that mining is a shoo-in here in Sudbury, but other programs need to be offered also.
"We can't just focus on one thing … especially in a community like Sudbury,” he said.
“We want to make sure there's access to other program offerings as well."
The Ontario government is moving toward a system operating in Alberta and British Columbia.
There, each college must focus on what it does best.
