Bailey Matte-Edmonds, 12, dies in Mattawa snowmobile crash
Ontario Provincial Police say a 12-year-old boy is dead after a snowmobile crash in Mattawa on Sunday.
OPP report that close to 3 p.m., Bailey Matte-Edmonds was riding a snowmobile near Highway 630 when he came to a stop sign. Police said it looks like the child disobeyed that sign, and pulled out into an intersection.
According to police, the boy's snowmobile was hit by a passenger car. The two people inside the car were uninjured. The boy, who was on the machine alone, was taken to hospital where he died of injuries.
Children as young as 12 are allowed to hold permits to drive snowmobiles unattended, but only on designated snowmobile trails.
OPP said the investigation is ongoing, and no charges are pending in this case.
The child's name has not been released.
