Pair facing drug-trafficking charges after Saskatoon traffic stop
Saskatoon police find man in the trunk of the vehicle. He faces charges for attempting to destroy evidence.
A traffic stop, a man in the trunk of a vehicle and an alleged attempted destruction of evidence has resulted in two people facing multiple charges.
Saskatoon police say at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, officers stopped a blue 2004 Chrysler Sebring with only one working tail light in the 100 block of Ave. U South.
Officers also wanted to check the driver's sobriety.
When police approached the vehicle officers saw a can of bear spray near the driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman.
As a result, she was arrested.
Police searched the vehicle and found an unspecified quantity of pills as well as drug packaging, a scale and additional bear spray.
And they also found a 35-year-old man inside the trunk of the vehicle.
Police allege they had a brief altercation while arresting the man as he attempted to destroy drug evidence.
When the man was being searched at a Saskatoon police detention facility the man is alleged to have attempted to destroy more evidence.
The man and woman, both from Saskatoon, have been charged with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, possession for the purpose of trafficking clonazepam.
They also face a charge each of possession of hydromorphone and two charges of possession of a dangerous weapon.
The man is facing additional charges of obstruction and possession of the proceeds of a crime under $5,000.
