Seahawks punter, Regina native Jon Ryan lights up internet again
Suffered bruised, bloody face after trying to hurdle Vikings defender
It took some blood and bruises, but Jon Ryan can celebrate his team's playoff win this past weekend.
It was a cold and suspenseful battle. Ryan and the Seattle Seahawks beat the Minnesota Vikings 10-9 on Sunday.
While Blair Walsh's missed 27-yard field goal was the talk of the NFL community following the game, it was a Saskatchewan-born kicker who made football fans go wild earlier in the game.
In case you missed it, the Seahawks were set to punt on fourth down and seven yards to go. The Regina native entered the game to punt it away, but the long snap was low and Ryan decided to take off in an effort to get the first down.
Not only did Ryan fail to get the necessary yardage, he took a tumble while attempting to hurdle a defender, ending his run with a painful-looking face plant and a bloody nose.
Within seconds, people on social media responded with both remorse for Ryan's pain and also praise for his toughness.
Not matter how low you may be feeling today, know you are having a better day than Seahawks P Jon Ryan.#NFLWildCard pic.twitter.com/pY67VsnubL

Jon Ryan gets bonus points for being a real football player. Nose dive, nose busted, toughs it out. Ever break a bone in feezing weather?

A broken nose can't stop the Ginja Ninja. Jon Ryan is a beast.

Even Ryan's own brother, Steve Ryan, took a jab at the incident:
I may have never played an NFL game, but at least I don't look like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction @JonRyan9 pic.twitter.com/M8GOcfr64b

On Monday, Ryan tweeted a photo of his bruised face and jokingly wrote "You should see the other guy."

The Seahawks will now take on the NFC's No. 1-ranked Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Jan. 17.
If recent playoff history is any indication, this isn't the last we'll hear of Saskatchewan's favourite punter.
