Saskatchewan Roughriders, B.C. Lions battle to avoid CFL basement

No CFL team wants to hold the distinction of being the last team to pick up a win.

Tonight, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and B.C. Lions are both hoping to pick up their first win of the season. The loser will be the only winless team in the league.

Between injuries and late-game collapses, it's been a very difficult season so far in Riderville.

The Riders has lost several players since starting quarterback Darian Durant suffered a season-ending injury. The week two star in the CFL, Riders receiver Ryan Smith, is now on the six-game injured list and will not play in B.C.

Smith had 8 catches — including a potential play of the year candidate — for 174 yards and a touchdown.

With Ryan Smith out, expect to see more of Taj Smith and Korey Williams on offence.

Rookie receiver Nic Demski was added to the 46-man roster but will not play.

On defence, Shea Emry, Marshay Green, and Keenan MacDougall are also on the six-game injured list.

Jake Doughty will make his second-straight and second career CFL start at middle linebacker.
