Police search for accused murderer who escaped from Prince Albert jail guards
Search for Braidy Vermette continues as police reveal new suspect
Police are still searching for a 28-year-old man who escaped from jail guards in Prince Albert last week.
Braidy Vermette, 28, was being held in the Prince Albert Correctional Centre since mid-March on first-degree murder charges in the death of Troy Napope.
On March 30, Vermette was being transported to hospital for a cut on his elbow.
In the hospital parking lot, two assailants wearing masks attacked the guards with bear spray, and pulled out a gun. Vermette escaped with the men.
Police have identified Ricky Favel as a suspect in the escape. He is wanted by Prince Albert police for breaching the terms of his bail.
Distinctive Tattoo
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Vermette's arrest. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.
- Man charged with 1st-degree murder of missing Troy Napope
- RCMP charge 2nd man with 1st-degree murder of Troy Napope
Vermette has a large laceration on his right elbow, which may require stitches, police say.
He has a tattoo on his neck that says "Tristan."
Police say he may be with his girlfriend, who has a distinctive neck tattoo with his name "Braidy" and a crown inked on her throat. He may have left the Prince Albert area.
Vermette is described as six feet, two inches tall, and weighs 240 pounds. He has short, black hair and brown eyes.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and ask that if anyone has any information, they should call the Prince Albert Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
