Police plane tracks stolen van after chase in Saskatoon
Man, 28, and woman, 19, arrested
Saskatoon Police have arrested two people after a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.
According to a police news release, patrol officers tried to stop a van on 20th Street, near Ave. W around 2:40 a.m. CST.
Police said the driver stepped on the gas and attempted to evade police, but officers in a cruiser kept the vehicle in sight until a police plane was above it.
The plane, equipped with an infrared camera, watched the vehicle as it sped around the city, allegedly sideswiping a vehicle on 22nd Street at Whitney.
The van was eventually abandoned on Milton Street, just east of Confederation Drive.
A K9 Unit was deployed and the two people who ran from the vehicle were quickly found hiding nearby. Both allegedly resisted police instructions and had to be treated for dog bites.
A 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from North Battleford, are now facing multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, evading police and dangerous driving.
The man also had several unrelated warrants for his arrest.
