After a 10-year departure, kicker Paul McCallum is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

McCallum first joined the Roughriders in 1994. He went on to play 12 seasons in green and white before moving to the B.C. Lions.

At 45 years old, McCallum is the oldest active player in the CFL. He took to Twitter to address Rider Nation.

The missed kick

The Canadian kicker's departure from Saskatchewan is a well-known story around the province and the CFL.

It started with an 18-yard field goal attempt in overtime against the B.C. Lions in the 2004 Western Final game. McCallum missed the chip-shot kick.

Following the Riders loss, McCallum's home was vandalized, he was threatened, and — the most infamous detail — manure was dumped on his neighbour's property. He played one more year with the Riders before moving to B.C.

Last season, the Vancouver native was the most accurate kicker in the league, connecting 90.5 per cent of his field goals. He was named a 2014 West Division All-Star.

The Lions and McCallum parted ways in this year's training camp.
