The new Mosaic Stadium will be serving up a unique menu along with a big university football game this weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, the University of Regina Rams host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the first game played at the new stadium. The game is already sold out and it is also expected to shatter the Canada West record with around 16,000 fans in attendance.

While football fans will probably be most excited to be the first see a game played in the new stadium — not to mention a crucial battle between the first-place Rams (3-1) and the Huskies (2-2) — the food will surely add to the excitement for some.

There will still be the usual hotdogs, burgers, and popcorn, but Evraz Place announced it is also bringing in local food vendors to test out some unique food options.

Graham Edge, vice-president of food and beverage for the Regina Exhibition Association Limited, said the Oct. 1 game will help them decide what fans want to eat at the new stadium into the future.

"When the stadium opens in 2017, we'll offer food and beverage options based on major market trends in other stadiums and the need to give our guests more choice and convenience," Edge said in a news release.

"We hope these local restaurants will be part of the future stadium food experience."

Kickoff between the Rams and Huskies is at 2 p.m. CST. Gates open at noon.
