Just a few weeks after trading defensive end Ricky Foley to Toronto, the Saskatchewan Roughriders appear to have found his replacement.

The Roughriders made a surprise signing on Wednesday bringing back defensive end Alex Hall.

The 6-6, 246-pound lineman from Maryland spent last season on the Carolina Panthers practice roster.

Hall won a Grey Cup championship with the Riders in 2013. The 29-year-old was acquired from the Bombers late in the 2013 season. Hall went on to become a CFL All-Star that year after racking up 16 sacks.

In 32 CFL games, Hall has recorded 71 tackles and 25 quarterback sacks.
