Canadian running back Jerome Messam is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a second season.

While he may never take over the nickname "Canuck Truck," the 6-3, 240-pound Messam was used largely late in games to wear down opposing defences.

The Toronto-product joined the Riders as a free agent in July 2014. He racked up 382 rushing yards and added one touchdown in limited duty. In week seven, Messam was named the CFL Canadian player of the week.

Messam, who won the most outstanding Canadian award in 2011, was set to become a free agent on Feb. 10.
