Officials with the Upper Room food bank in Charlottetown were busy Tuesday putting away thousands of pounds of food collected during the Y's Mens food drive.

Volunteers went door-to-door Monday night in the Charlottetown and Cornwall areas collecting non-perishable food donations as part of the annual food drive.

Food bank manager Mike MacDonald said it was great to see the truckloads of food come in.

"We're estimating about 40 to 41 pallets of food, which is right on par with the last couple of years," said MacDonald. "So we are extremely excited about that and, you know, it puts us in a great position for the next couple of months.

"It is a lot of food and it really is hard to vision it unless you see it yourself. Really without the Y's Men doing this drive, you know we wouldn't be able to operate the way that we do today."

MacDonald notes this is the largest food drive of the year for the food bank.
