RCMP charge 4 with impaired driving
Drunk driving arrests in Mount Carmel, Montague, Tignish and Stratford
RCMP on P.E.I. charged four people for impaired driving over the weekend.
The charges are in addition to three impaired driving arrests made by Summerside police over the weekend.
Mont Carmel
The first was overnight Friday, when police received a call about a vehicle off the road on Route 177 in Mont Carmel.
RCMP say an intoxicated woman drove her vehicle off the road and into a tree.
The woman was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusal to provide breath samples.
Stratford
A Stratford man was arrested after he tried to make a purchase at the Stratford liquor store Saturday evening.
Staff at the store refused to serve the man because they believed he was intoxicated.
The man was seen entering the store by an off-duty Charlottetown police officer. When the man came back outside, the officer detained him until RCMP arrived.
The man was taken to the RCMP detachment at Maypoint, where police allege his breath samples were more than three times the legal limit.
In addition to criminal charges, the man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Tignish
At about 3:30 a.m., police were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a Tignish parking lot when they found a man with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit.
A 30-year-old West Prince man was charged and was prohibited from driving for 90 days.
Montague
At 4:05 p.m. Sunday, RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a gas station in Montague.
Patrols found the driver near his home in Lower Montague.
Police say the 61-year-old man showed signs of alcohol impairment and was taken back to the Montague RCMP office, where his breath samples showed alcohol blood levels above the legal limit.
