P.E.I. Progressive Conservatives have set a date for a leadership convention.

The party announced at its annual general meeting over the weekend in North Rustico that it will choose a new leader May 30, 2015 at the University of Prince Edward Island Field House.

While no one has officially announced their intention to seek the leadership, a number of potential candidates have said they haven't ruled it out.

"That will be up for them to announce, now that a date is set and they are free to announce exactly who is coming forward whenever they want," said party's president Peter McQuaid.

The party will be prepared whenever the next provincial election comes, said McQuaid.

That could be in the fall of 2015 or the spring of 2016, depending on the timing of the next federal election.

The Tories have been led by interim leader Steven Myers since Olive Crane stepped down as leader in January of last year. Crane was later kicked out of caucus and now sits as an independent MLA.
