Many businesses, services closed or on reduced hours for Remembrance Day
It's a good idea to call ahead to check on whether restaurants, businesses or services are open if you're heading out on Remembrance Day.
Call ahead to check if businesses are open before heading out
Due to Remembrance Day, Monday Nov. 11 is a statutory holiday in Prince Edward Island, and many businesses and services will be closed or on reduced hours.
Ceremonies will take place across the Island in honour of veterans. The provincial one will be held at the cenotaph beside Province House in Charlottetown, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Some restaurants and other venues may be open, but it's a good idea to call ahead first if you're planning to head to a specific place.
Here is a partial list of what will be open and closed:
Services
- All federal, municipal and provincial government offices, including all Access P.E.I. locations, are closed for the day.
- Canada Post offices are closed, and there will be no mail delivery or collection on Monday.
- Island Waste Management will not collect garbage, and disposal sites will be closed. Waste normally collected on Monday will be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 16.
- T3 Transit's city and rural buses will not be operating on Monday. Maritime Bus routes will operate as usual.
- All P.E.I. Public Library locations are closed.
- Schools operated by the Public Schools Branch and the province's French-language school board will be closed Monday.
- UPEI will have no classes for all programs except Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Education.
- All Holland College locations will be closed Monday.
Shopping & Groceries
- Royalty Crossing mall is closed.
- Confederation Court Mall is closed.
- All P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission stores are closed.
- All Cannabis P.E.I. stores are closed.
- County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed, but the Lawtons Drugs inside the mall is open from noon to 5 p.m.
- Sobeys and Foodland stores are all closed Monday.
- Atlantic Superstores, No Frills in Stratford and Your Independent Grocer in Cornwall are all closed.
- Walmart in Charlottetown and Summerside are both closed.
- Giant Tiger stores in Charlottetown and Summerside are closed.
- Kensington Food Basket is open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Mount Edward Grocery in Charlottetown is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Global Grocery in Charlottetown is closed.
- Summerside Butcher Shop is closed.
Pharmacies
- Shoppers Drug Mart locations are all open for their regular hours.
- All Lawtons Drugs stores are open with reduced hours on Monday. Call your location to check hours.
- Murphy's Pharmacies in Summerside, East Royalty, Morell, North Rustico, Tyne Valley and Wellington are closed Monday. The locations in Cornwall, Stratford-Kinlock and Stratford Road, as well as Charlottetown's West Royalty and Queen Street pharmacies, are open noon to 5 p.m. Monday. Murphy's Parkdale Pharmacy is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Kensington location is open 1 to 5 p.m.
- Wally's Pharmasave in Cornwall is open from noon to 3 p.m.
- Pharmasave Main Street in Souris is open from noon to 5 p.m.
- Pharmasave Montague is open noon to 6 p.m.
