P.E.I. man charged with impaired driving causing death of woman killed in head-on crash
Stephen Michael Quinn is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Charlottetown on Aug. 6, 2018
A 56-year-old man from the Cornwall, P.E.I., area is facing two charges related to a fatal head-on collision that led to the death of an Island woman.
Stephen Michael Quinn has been charged with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving with blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, causing death, according to the RCMP's Sgt. Chris Gunn.
On March 5, Melissa Ann Palmer, 36, was driving a Honda Civic in Eldon that collided head-on with a van.
Her husband told CBC News she was on her way back from the store in Eldon when the crash occurred.
Police say Quinn was driving the courier van that collided with Palmer's car, and that he was headed toward Charlottetown.
They say Quinn was working at the time of the accident, although police wouldn't share the man's blood alcohol level as the case is now before the courts.
Gunn said road and weather conditions were not factors in the crash.
Quinn is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Charlottetown on Aug. 6, 2018. He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
