Charlottetown Airport had another record-breaking year in 2024, according to recently released numbers.

Over the past 12 months, 410,773 passengers travelled through the airport — an increase of 2 per cent over 2023, which was the airport's previous record year — and a 7.2 per cent rise compared to 2019.

Four airlines — Air Canada, Porter, WestJet and Flair — operated flights to six destinations throughout that year.

The airport is also making progress on its terminal expansion project to accommodate the growing number of passengers. It is expected to be completed by 2027.

Travel numbers plummeted during the pandemic, and in 2020, Charlottetown Airport Authority CEO Doug Newson expressed concern that air travel might never fully recover.

But in a news release Wednesday, Newson said he's proud of the airport's growth in 2024.

"This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, the strong support of our airline partners, and the growing demand for travel to and from Prince Edward Island."
