P.E.I. Teachers' Federation cancels rally to protest teacher cuts
The P.E.I. Teachers' Federation has cancelled a rally that was scheduled for Tuesday to protest the elimination of 28 positions in the English Language School.
The province announced Monday it would review its decision to cut the positions after it met with the teachers' federation.
In a statement released Monday evening, PEITF president Gilles Arsenault said, based on "these positive developments," the rally at the Coles Building would be cancelled.
The PEITF and principals will work with government with the aim of reinstating the positions, he said.
"We had very meaningful discussions today with government," said Arsenault.
"We're confident that government will find the need for all of the positions being reviewed and we are confident they will all be reinstated."
Last week, the PEITF walked away from contract talks with the province, but Arsenault said the federation will return to the bargaining table.
