Provincial government offices on P.E.I. outside of Charlottetown and West Prince are closed Friday in the wake of a winter storm.

Although snow is no longer falling on most of P.E.I., winds remain high, making blowing snow and whiteouts a factor.

Environment Canada is reporting winds of 41 km/hr with gusts up to 68 km/hr.

Weather radar at 8 a.m. shows snow has mostly left P.E.I. (Environment Canada)
High winds will persist in to late afternoon.

Public schools are on a PD day, so no cancellations on that front.

However, University of Prince Edward Island and Holland College centres, except Alberton, are closed for the day.

Many businesses are operating on delays.

CBC meteorologist Peter Coade says temperatures will be cold, falling slowly to -16 C with a cold wind chill near - 26.

Temperatures will be colder than normal into early next week, says Coade, adding, "There are indications of more snow by Tuesday or Wednesday."
