3 flu deaths recorded by P.E.I. health officials

Three people have died from the flu on P.E.I. so far this season, health officials say.

Of the total 119 lab-confirmed cases of the flu, there have been 50 hospitalizations and three deaths.

The deaths involved elderly people who had other medical conditions.

There is currently an outbreak at a long-term care facility.

Health officials say the median age of people who have contracted the flu this season is 74.

As always, lab-confirmed cases are only an indication that influenza is circulating in the community, and most people with the flu are not tested, say officials.

Officials say influenza activity is decreasing in the province overall.
