Two residents living near Percy and Nepean streets say they’re shaken after a 17-year-old was shot and killed just before 10 p.m. on Sunday night.

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed near Percy and Nepean streets in Centretown around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Ottawa police said.

On Monday, police identified the victim as Quentin Dorsainvil of Ottawa. A second person was also shot, taken to hospital and released, police said.

Police initially said they had no suspect in custody, but on Monday afternoon confirmed they'd arrested someone for alleged firearms offences and are looking into that individual's involvement in the homicide.

The shooting occurred in a residential area behind an elementary school, a little more than a kilometre from Parliament Hill.

"We heard, I think, four to five shots — which I convinced my wife were fireworks," Alex Crombie, who lives nearby, told CBC. "That, in the morning, turned out not to be the case."

Corrections

  • Ottawa police originally said the victim was 18 years old. They corrected that the following day to say he was 17.
