From the glory days of the Rough Riders to the dark days of a vacant stadium, Ottawa has had a long and difficult history with football.

It's been eight years since a Canadian Football League team played at home in Ottawa, and almost four decades since the city celebrated a championship. But tonight, football returns to Lansdowne Park with the Ottawa Redblacks home opener against the Toronto Argonauts.

CBC Ottawa will be there throughout the day to report and talking with fans and residents about the event.

Our coverage began at 6 a.m. ET as Ottawa Morning reported on the scene, and the coverage continues in the afternoon starting at 3 p.m. on All in a Day, which will be broadcasting live interviews from Lansdowne and tracking the traffic and thousands of fans heading to the game.

And CBC TV News will also be reporting live from the stadium beginning at 5 p.m. ET.

Join us here for the full 150 yards of coverage of the return of football to Ottawa.
