4 shortlisted for LeBreton Flats redevelopment

The National Capital Commission announced Wednesday that four of five groups that submitted ideas to redevelop LeBreton Flats will be given $75,000 to prepare more detailed proposals.

All four groups proposed green spaces, commercial and residential developments, as well as their own unique facilities for the 9.3-hectare site.

According to an NCC release, the groups that have been accepted are:

• RendezVous LeBreton Group, which represents the Ottawa Senators, proposed "a major event centre for sports and entertainment performances, complemented by green spaces,  and residential and commercial developments."
• Claridge Homes, which proposed "indoor and outdoor concert facilities, cultural enterprises surrounded by green spaces, and residential and commercial developments."
• Devcore Group, which proposed "a concept with multiple cultural institutions developed around an grand allée, green spaces, and residential and commercial developments."
• Focus Equities, which proposed "to house the headquarters of an international organization, accompanied by cultural venues, green spaces, and residential and commercial developments."

High-quality design proposals and financial plans must be submitted by November 2015.

"We are encouraged by the quality of the proposals we received and we look forward to getting the detailed project designs," said NCC CEO Mark Kristmanson.

In January, the NCC announced it had received five submissions after it called out for an anchor private sector tenant.

In December, Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said the team would be submitting a proposal for a new NHL arena close to the Canadian War Museum.
