The Ultimate Fighting Championship is coming to Atlantic Canada for the first time ever on Oct. 4. An estimated 10,000 fans will attend UFC Fight Night at the Halifax Metro Centre.

One of those fighters is Charlottetown,P.E.I., native Jason Saggo. He made his UFC debut in Vancouver in June.

“Being so close to my home in Prince Edward Island where people can actually come and drive over. There’s [going to] be a lot more fans there coming out. Team Saggo all the way,” he said.

One Maritimer who won’t be on the card is Cole Harbour’s T.J. Grant. He’s been sidelined since last year because of a concussion, but he has resumed training, excluding sparring.

“I feel great,” he said.

Grant thinks the event will be successful.

“I’m excited for all the fighters that get to fight in front of the fans here in Halifax because I know that they’re going to be screaming their heads off and I’m sure it’s gonna be a great show,” he said.

The main event will feature Canadian Rory MacDonald, who fights out of Montreal. The 25-year-old is a veteran and this fight will mark his 20th match.

Tickets go on sale Friday.
