Halifax food bank wins after months of campaigning
A food bank in Halifax is about to get a serious makeover after winning a $100,000 grant from the Aviva Community Fund.
Souls Harbour found out it was one of the grand prize winners Tuesday morning after months of campaigning.
Right now, the charity cooks for 100 people every day in a standard, small kitchen. The money will build their dream space — a commercial kitchen that will provide them the ability to cook for more people in need.
"Your support made this happen!" wrote founder Michelle Porter on Twitter. "Thank you, all!"
This is the second Halifax organization to win the grand prize in the Aviva contest. In 2013, the Community Carrot Co–op won $115,000 to open up a grocery store on Gottingen Street.
