Police says they shot and killed three dogs this morning that were attacking a woman inside her Halifax home.

Halifax Regional Police Const. Paul DesRochers said that around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday officers responded to a call that three large dogs were attacking a woman on Frederick Avenue.

Police entered the residence, and while attempting to save the woman, police said the dogs turned on them.

One of the officers shot and killed the three dogs.

The woman was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries from the attack that are not considered life-threatening, and the officers were not injured.

DesRochers declined to say if the dogs belonged to the woman who was attacked or what breed they were, saying only that they were "quite large."
