Halifax man arrested after Needs Convenience robbery

A 59-year-old man has been arrested and faces multiple charges including carrying a concealed weapon after the Needs Convenience store on Herring Cove road was robbed.

A Halifax man has been arrested following the robbery of a Needs Convenience store earlier this month.

Around 5 a.m. on May 19, two male suspects entered the Needs Convenience at the corner of Herring Cove road and Withrod drive. Police say they demanded cash and cigarettes from the female store clerk, and forced her around the store as they took other items. 

The suspects left the scene in a silver, rusted vehicle. Police say the car was stolen on May 11 and was recovered in Armstrong Court on May 25. 

Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, police say they searched an apartment on Evans avenue. A 59-year-old man was arrested.

He faces the following charges: 

  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Uttering threats
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Robbery
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Failure to comply with probation order x 2

Police say the second robbery suspect has not yet been found.
