Halifax will host a Davis Cup playoff tie between Canada and Chile just before fall arrives, Tennis Canada announced Tuesday.

The Canadian men will face Chile from Sept. 16 to 18 at the Scotiabank Centre.

"We are very happy to be awarded a home tie after two very tough back-to-back road ties in the last year," Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau said in a news release. "We are also very excited to be heading back to Halifax as the world group playoff there in 2014 was a huge success for us."

In the 2014 event in Halifax, Canada won its matchup against Colombia.

Currently, Canada ranks 12th in the world, while Chile is 23rd.

Canada must win in September to remain in the world group for 2017. A loss would relegate the team back to Americas Zone Group I for next year, where it hasn't played since 2011.
